It is not possible to insert a virtual CD in a Windows Remote Desktop session.
The virtual drives are shown in the Windows Explorer, but there is no function to insert a virtual CD over the context menu. The Virtual CD - CD Management and Quick Start Program don't show the virtual drives at all. Furthermore you cannot add virtual drives as this function is also missing.
(Virtual CD error code: 14)
This behavior is by design as of Windows Vista and affects all kinds removable storage. There is a corresponding Microsoft White Paper available which deals with this issue: Removable Storage Devices and Windows Vista Support.
You can allow the access to removable storage devices within a Remote Desktop session as follows (please note that this is possible as of Windows Vista Business resp. Windows 7 Professional only!):
-
Click on Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc which starts the Group Policy Object Editor.
-
Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access and activate the policy "All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions".
