Error message 'Failed to verify the integrity of the executable' when starting Virtual CD v8

As of Virtual CD v8 all DLLs und Executables are signed digitally.

Up to version 8.0.0.4 the certificate for vc8play.exe is valid from 2006/03/01 to 2009/03/24. With version 8.0.0.5 and newer this limitation is suspended.

When Virtual CD is started outside of this period, the following error message appears:

"VCD8 Play. Failed to verify the integrity of the executable. A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or timestamp"

Please update Virtual CD to the latest version 8.0.0.6:

  • Change the calendar date of your system to a value between 2006/03/01 and 2009/03/24.
  • Download the update to version 8.0.0.6.
  • Run the update.
  • Undo the calendar date change.

If the update does not allow you to be run, please try the full setup:

  • Download the full setup if version 8.0.0.6.
  • Uninstall Virtual CD and restart your PC.
On problems with the deinstallation please refer to another KB article which provides an uninstaller.
  • Install Virtual CD 8.0.0.6
Note: During the installation of Virtual CD you are prompted to enter the license key. If needed you can find your license before deinstallation over the Virtual CD Diagnostics: Double-click the file vc9diag.exe in the Virtual CD program subdirectory System. First you'll see the erreor message reagarding the outdated certificate, but after a few seconds the Diagnostics finally will show up. Under LicenseKey you find your license key which you can copy and paste e.g. to Notepad and thus later on can be used for the reinstallation.

Note: If you want to distribute Virtual CD via Client Setup an update with the full setup is unalterable as the Client Setup has to be recreated! The update setup does not provide the files to create a Client Setup with the new version!
